NAVOTAS Mayor John Rey Tiangco said the city government is now putting the finishing touches on its contingency measures for the opening of classes on June 6.

According to Tiangco, the ongoing preparations also involve the local Police Department, City Traffic and Parking Management Office (CTPMO), Engineering Department, Public Information Office (PIO), Barangay Operations Center (BOC), Health Department, and the School Division.

As part of the preparations, Tiangco ordered the deployment of traffic enforcers, including barangay tanod as force multiplier, at all intersections along major routes leading to different schools.

Senior Supt. Florendo Quibuyen, the city's police chief, was also directed to increase police visibility to prevent criminal elements from taking advantage of the “Balik Eskwela 2011” Program.

The Engineering and Health departments are likewise given the go-signal to immediately implement various health and sanitation activities that include fogging operation in all public and private schools, de-clogging and cleaning of all esteros, canals, and waterways, and activation of the Barangay Anti-Dengue Team to monitor and coordinate all reports of dengue cases and other related diseases in all 14 barangays.

Tiangco assured parents that the city government, through the Local School Board, has allocated funds to ensure the accommodation of all students this coming school year.

“The Balik Eskwela Program aims to ensure the safety and convenience of our students and all concerned for this school opening. We want to see to it that everything is set and all programs and projects concerning education are properly executed,” Tiangco said.
