CALOOCAN Mayor Enrico “Recom” Echiverri has ordered the inspection of all dormitories, boarding houses and similar buildings in the city as a means of looking after the safety of students who will be moving in to their temporary homes upon the opening of classes this June 6.

Based on Executive Order (EO) No. 12-11 issued by Echiverri, a task force for the inspection of such building will be formed, to be led by City Administrator Russel Ramirez; Fire/Supt. Roel Jeremy Diaz will serve as deputy team leader; Engr. Reynaldo Reyes, co-deputy team leader; Engr. Rolando Eduria, Atty. Melanie Soriano-Malaya, Yolanda Plata, Dr. Raquel So-Sayo and Erwin Patrick Cruz as members.

The order said that the task force will conduct daily inspections before forwarding their report to the mayor’s office, which, in turn, will implement the necessary steps once violators of the national and local building code as well as the fire code are found.

Information dissemination on local residents regarding the activity will be handled by the Public Information Office (PIO); Community Relations Office (CRO) and Barangay Secretariat Office, the order said.

According to Echiverri, it is the local government’s responsibility to ensure the safety and security of students by inspecting dormitories and boarding houses in time for the reopening of classes.

Only by carrying out these inspections, Echiverri pointed out, would there be peace of mind among the parents of these students.

The mayor likewise appealed to the owners of dormitories and boarding houses to cooperate with the local government in its program of protecting students.
