A ranking official of an association of employers in the country welcomes using the railway’s stored value tickets as non-wage incentives to employees.
Rene Cristobal, member of the Board of Governors of the Employers Confederation of the Philippines (ECOP), said the rails’ stored value tickets could join the package of non-wage benefits from employers like free sacks of rice, uniforms and medicines.
Cristobal, who is also chairman of ECOP’s corporate social responsibility committee and President of Tulay sa Pag-unlad, Inc. (TSPI), cited the contributions of the rail transit transport mode to employees’ productivity in the workplace.
ECOP, composed of 50 large companies, represents over one million employees around the country.
Cristobal noted that using the MRT 3, Line 1 or Line 2 spare riding employees from traffic—and thus come to work early. The rail transit contributes to the productivity, as they report to work promptly.
The ECOP officials came on the heels of the planned public consultations by DOTC-LRTA-MRT with students on February 4, and with workers on February 5. The consultations will be held at the LRT Line 2 Depot, Santolan, Pasig City at 9:00 a.m.
Late last month, the Light Railway Transit Authority Board approved a provisional increase in LRT/MRT fares from an average of 14-15 pesos to 19 pesos, assuming an average journey of 8 kilometers.
The Board approved a P11 boarding fee plus P1 for every kilometer run.
