SEM-CALACA Power Corp., a unit of DMCI Holdings Inc. of the Consunji Group, will start the expansion of the 600-megawatt Calaca-coal fired power plant this year, a company official said.

Sem-Calaca director Nestor Davidas said the target is to expand the plant's capacity by another 600 MW but the first phase would be to construct two units of 150 MW circulating fluidized bed power plant.

"The 2 X 150 MW CFB coal power plant is the first phase of the total 4 x 150 MW. We hope to break ground within the year," Davidas said.

Sem-Calaca, a company established by Semirara Mining Corp., a DMCI subsidiary, operates the Calaca coal facility.
